Government Enforcement/
White Collar Defense

Most of our clients have zero criminal history and never would have imagined finding themselves involved in a criminal investigation. They face a system that can seem irrational and overwhelming–and situations where they feel badly misunderstood. We work from the beginning to build compelling defense narratives to help prosecutors, judges, and juries understand our clients’ stories. We have successfully avoided or favorably resolved charges for our clients in all manner of criminal and regulatory enforcement situations.

Investigations

We have steered our clients through all sorts of investigations involving the most sensitive issues.  Sometimes, these investigations arise in response to inquiries from agencies like the DOJ/FBI, SEC, FTC, Treasury Department, EPA, or state and local law enforcement entities.  Other times, we help companies and organizations conduct credible internal investigations in response to allegations of wrongdoing, before there is a regulator involved.  We also frequently advise individual employees needing guidance during internal investigations by their employers.  In all cases, our goal is to find the truth while also minimizing business disruption and building the credibility that is critical to resolving issues down the road.

Trials and Appeals

Though settlement is sometimes the best option for a client, we did not get into this business to settle cases.  We have collectively handled more than 100 trials and appeals, in most cases as lead counsel.

Complex Civil Litigation

Civil Litigation is another of our core practice areas. Our team has successfully litigated big-ticket cases for both plaintiffs and defendants, making us uniquely qualified to problem-solve and develop winning strategies in a huge variety of cases. We know where to look for the best evidence in discovery, and we have the judgment to understand which battles advance our clients' goals and which do not. Whether a client's goal is to get out of litigation early or go all the way to a trial victory, we aim to be the counsel of choice for clients facing critical and difficult commercial lawsuits.
